Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student identifies the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, the description is overly brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the sequence. The overview is present but lacks depth. Because the response is under-length, it cannot fully develop the information provided in the diagram, leading to a failure to address all parts of the task adequately. To improve, the student should aim to describe each stage with more precision and ensure the response meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'At a fleeting glance' and 'On next stage'. The logical progression is hindered by the brevity of the text and the repetitive structure of the sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making the flow of information feel disjointed. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that transitions between stages are smooth and natural rather than forced.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Words like 'silos', 'mixer', and 'noodles' are used frequently without variation. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'process of manufactured' (should be 'manufacturing') and 'silos is send' (should be 'sent'). The range is insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to industrial processes, such as 'conveyed', 'processed', 'integrated', or 'subsequently'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'silos is send' and 'noodles is are cut'. The use of passive voice is attempted but often incorrectly formed, such as 'noodles are putted' (should be 'put'). Sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The student should focus on mastering basic verb tenses and passive constructions to improve accuracy.
