Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 75 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student identifies the main steps of the noodle manufacturing process, the lack of length prevents a proper summary, the inclusion of an overview, or the development of comparisons. The response reads more like a list of steps rather than a cohesive report. To improve, the student must expand on the details of each stage and provide a clear introductory summary of the overall process.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is presented as a single, short paragraph. While there is a basic chronological sequence using transition words like 'Then' and 'subsequently', the overuse of 'then' makes the writing repetitive and mechanical. There is no clear paragraph structure or logical progression beyond a simple list. The lack of varied cohesive devices and the brevity of the text hinder the flow of information. To achieve a higher band, the student should group related stages into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking phrases to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple verbs like 'transported', 'prepared', and 'formed'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or precise terminology related to industrial processes. For example, instead of 'transported to mixture', a more accurate term would be 'fed into a mixing machine'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to describe the process with precision. Expanding the range of verbs and nouns related to manufacturing would significantly improve the quality of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar is generally simple, consisting mostly of basic sentence structures. There are several errors, such as 'transported to truck' (missing article) and 'mixture of oil and water are transported' (subject-verb agreement error, as 'mixture' is singular). The punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and comma splices. The student does not demonstrate the use of complex sentence structures, which is necessary for higher band scores. Focusing on sentence variety and ensuring subject-verb agreement would help improve the grammatical accuracy and range.
