Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all stages of the noodle manufacturing process, from storage to sealing. The overview identifies the total number of steps, which is a good start. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical focus on the 'main features' or significant comparisons. For instance, the transition between the dough preparation and the cooking phase is described, but the relationship between the stages could be more clearly synthesised. The response is accurate in its reporting of the steps, but it would benefit from a more sophisticated grouping of the stages to better highlight the manufacturing flow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, following the chronological order of the diagram. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'followed by' and 'after that'. Some referencing is slightly unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between sentences feels a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the stages would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the process clearly. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'instance noodles' instead of 'instant noodles' and 'all requirement ingredients' instead of 'all required ingredients'. The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic verbs like 'take', 'make', and 'put'. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise technical vocabulary related to manufacturing processes, such as 'conveyed', 'processed', 'transformed', or 'automated', and ensure correct collocations are used throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'in whole the process' (word order), 'it entered into mixer' (missing article), 'all ingredients blend' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Noodles discs are make' (passive voice error). While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and consistent verb tense will significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
