Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the student identifies the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, the description is overly brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the process. Key features, such as the specific sequence of events and the transition between stages, are mentioned but not developed. The summary is incomplete, and the lack of length prevents a comprehensive overview of the diagram, leading to a failure to address all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is very short, making it difficult to assess the use of paragraphing and cohesive devices. The text is organized into very short, disjointed sentences that lack logical flow. While there are some attempts at transition words like 'The next step' and 'Moreover', the overall progression is mechanical and repetitive. The lack of a clear structure and the limited development of ideas mean that the response does not demonstrate the ability to organize information coherently or use a range of cohesive devices effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'diagram' and 'machine'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mixer the water' instead of 'mixing the water' and 'noodles disc' instead of 'noodle discs'. The range of vocabulary is limited and insufficient for an academic task, which requires more precise terminology to describe industrial processes. The errors in word form and usage occasionally make the text difficult to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a very limited range of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The roller make dough sheets') and incorrect verb forms ('a subsequent machine is convert it'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of basic grammatical errors indicate a limited control of English grammar, which hinders the clarity of the information provided.
