Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The map illustrates the process of manufacturing and preparation of noodles in an industry.

The whole procedure contains 8 stages. Its starts from the storage of silos and ends at labeling process.

In the beginning, this starts from putting the flour in the storage silos. These are very large drums. These drums push the flour into mixer, water and oil also add from another entrance. This mixer kneads the dough. Moreover, in the next phase this dough moves on the dough sheets through rollers. Furthermore, the dough sheets cut into strips. In the 5th step, these strips pass through the machine and become in the shape of discs. These disc are also called Noodles discs.

Additionally, these discs cook in the oil, after drying the oil, noodles place into cups. In addition, vegetables and spices include in the noodles cups in the 7th stage. The last one procedure is labelling and sealing, later noodles supplies to the shops. People buy the noodles from shops and eat them with pleasure. The spices and vegetables make the taste of noodles more delicious.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process. However, the response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. You have included some irrelevant personal commentary at the end, such as 'People buy the noodles from shops and eat them with pleasure,' which is not part of the diagram and should be avoided in an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus strictly on the visual information provided and ensure you highlight the key trends or stages rather than just listing steps sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into a logical sequence, following the steps of the process. You use some cohesive devices like 'In the beginning,' 'Moreover,' and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the report is contained in one large block. Breaking the text into logical paragraphs—such as an introduction, a summary of the initial stages, and a summary of the final stages—would significantly improve the flow and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the process clearly. You use process-related terms like 'silos,' 'kneads,' 'dough sheets,' and 'labeling.' However, there is some repetition and a few awkward word choices, such as 'become in the shape of discs' and 'after drying the oil.' To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise technical vocabulary and avoid informal phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Its starts' (should be 'It starts'), 'water and oil also add' (should be 'are also added'), and 'these disc are' (should be 'these discs are'). These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding the process. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential when describing industrial processes.
