IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The presented process diagram delineates the comparative data how instant noodles are manufactured. Looking from an overall perspective it is evident that it is a human made, linear process, which consists on three main stages including( flour processing, cooking with oil and leabling+ sealing).
To commence with, it is started by storage silos of flour, then water and oil is mixed into by a mixer, and it is shifted to Dough sheets by the rollers. Similarly, it is passed by Dough strips, then it is divided equally by Noodles discs.
Secondly, it is cooked into oil rather it is also dried, next it puted into cups, while vegetables and spices are added in it. Finally, it sealed by labels, and these are available in markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the description of the manufacturing process. While the main stages are identified, the explanation is overly brief and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the report does not sufficiently compare the stages or provide enough detail on the transition between steps. To improve, you must expand on the process by describing the inputs and outputs more thoroughly and ensuring the response meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. While cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Similarly', and 'Finally' are used, they are sometimes applied awkwardly or do not accurately reflect the logical flow of the process. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'it is passed by Dough strips', which makes the sequence of events difficult to follow. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help create a smoother, more professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'leabling+ sealing' and 'it puted into cups'. The use of 'human made' is also slightly unnatural in this context. While the basic terminology for the process is present, the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise verbs and nouns related to industrial processes, such as 'conveyed', 'integrated', or 'automated', and ensure that spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with passive voice construction, such as 'it is started by storage silos' and 'it is passed by Dough strips', which are grammatically incorrect. Additionally, there are errors in verb tense and form, such as 'it puted into cups' and 'it sealed by labels'. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence variety. Focusing on correct passive voice usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
