Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student has attempted to summarize the process of manufacturing instant noodles, identifying several stages such as storing flour in silos, mixing, rolling into dough sheets, and packaging in cups. However, the response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 106 words. Consequently, the task has only been partially addressed due to the strict length penalty, leaving key features such as the frying/drying stage inadequately described and developed. To improve, the student must expand on each step of the diagram to meet the word count requirement fully.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text exhibits some basic organization by attempting to follow a chronological sequence through linking words like 'first', 'After mixed it', 'Moreover', and 'in the end of this process'. However, paragraphing is somewhat disorganized, and the overall progression lacks seamlessness. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'After mixed it ,they make it in dough sheets' and 'keep with dry too'. Referencing is also somewhat unclear at times, which disrupts the flow of information. To enhance coherence, the student should ensure clearer transitions between sentences and structure the response into logical paragraphs representing distinct phases of the manufacturing process.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring everyday words like 'store', 'building', 'water', 'oil', and 'cups'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'store the silos', 'After mixed it', and 'keep with dry too'. The student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to the diagram, including 'flour', 'dough sheets', 'dough strips', and 'vegetables and spices', which prevents the score from dropping further. However, the limited range and frequent word-choice errors restrict the lexical score to a band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic coordinating clauses. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, characterized by persistent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency. Examples include 'company store the silos in a building in that they make it into flour', 'they make it in dough sheets with the help of mechine', and missing capitalization/spacing around commas and periods. These grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings cause some difficulty for the reader, though the general meaning remains partially understandable.
