Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the process of manufacturing instant noodles, identifying the eight main steps from storage silos to labelling and sealing. However, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 144 words. Furthermore, some parts of the process description are confused or awkwardly expressed, such as the transition through the rollers and mixer, leading to under-development of certain stages. An overview is present at the beginning, but overall task fulfillment is hindered by the length penalty and some descriptive gaps.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is organized into four brief paragraphs, attempting a chronological progression of the manufacturing process. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Afterward', and 'Moving further' are used to link the stages, though some are awkward or repetitive. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks smooth transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it sometimes difficult to follow the exact sequence of mechanical operations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a basic vocabulary appropriate to the diagram, including terms like 'storage silos', 'flour', 'rollers', 'dough sheets', and 'vegetables and spices'. However, there is a lack of flexibility, and noticeable word choice and collocation errors are present, such as 'how food manufacturing instant noodles', 'put to the storage silos', and 'transfer a sell to shops'. These lexical limitations and repetition of words like 'mixer' and 'noodles discs' restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex or multi-clause sentences are heavily flawed and ungrammatical, for instance, 'The diagram illustrates the process of how food manufacturing instant noodles' and 'manufacturing instant noodles begin the process with flour put to the storage silos and then transfer into rollers to mixer'. Frequent errors in verb forms, voice, and preposition use cause significant strain for the reader.
