Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe the process of manufacturing instant noodles, but falls short of the minimum 150-word requirement, standing at 149 words. While the writer identifies several stages from the diagram such as flour storage, mixing, rolling, and adding vegetables and spices, the overall reporting of main features is fragmented and difficult to follow. The description of the steps is confusing and often inaccurate in sequence or mechanics, such as stating 'water and oil passes from the dough sheets'. Key parts of the visual data are misread or poorly linked, and there is no clear, cohesive overview provided. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks clear logical organization and progression throughout. The text is broken into very short, disjointed sentences and isolated single-sentence paragraphs rather than being structured into coherent developmental paragraphs. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with clumsy transitions such as 'To initiate with' and 'in the further'. Reference words are frequently ambiguous or incorrect, making it difficult to follow the progression of the manufacturing process. Overall arrangement lacks a smooth flow, placing it squarely in the lower-middle bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on awkward phrasing and incorrect collocations, such as 'storage the soils' instead of 'storage silos' and 'noodles making process'. Attempts to use less common or academic vocabulary result in severe inaccuracies that impede communication, as seen in phrases like 'noodles discs would be ready for cooking after this cooking discs would be drying'. Word choices are frequently strained, demonstrating a limited range that struggles to adequately describe the technical process shown in the diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly constructed simple and attempted complex sentences that contain severe structural errors. There are frequent issues with tense usage, verb forms, and word class, such as 'dough strips had worked' and 'cups had labled for sealing'. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing periods and commas. Errors are dense throughout the response and frequently distort the intended meaning, causing significant difficulty for the reader.
