The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles. Overall, there are eight main stages, beginning with the storage of flour and ending with the sealing and labelling of the finished products in cups.

First, flour is kept in large storage silos before being transferred to a mixer. At this stage, water and oil are added to the flour to produce dough. The dough is then passed through a series of rollers, which flatten it into thin sheets. After that, these sheets are cut into narrow strips and shaped into round noodle discs.

In the next stage, the noodle discs are cooked in hot oil and then dried to remove excess moisture. Once they have been dried, the noodles are placed into individual cups. At the same time, dehydrated vegetables and various seasonings are added to each cup to enhance the flavour of the final product.

Finally, the filled cups are sealed securely with lids to preserve freshness. They are then labelled with the necessary product information before being packaged and distributed to shops for sale.
