Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to describe the eight-step process of manufacturing instant noodles, mentioning most of the key stages from flour storage to labelling and sealing. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at 140 words. Additionally, the overview provided in the final paragraph is somewhat repetitive and vague ("some steps like mixer, dough sheets, cookings and labeling is the main thing in the process"). While the main sequence is largely outlined, the minor omissions and lack of fully developed comparative reporting place this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised sequentially using chronological linkers such as "In the first step", "In the next step", and "In the last step". However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the text suffers from a lack of smooth transitions between sentences. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or mechanically applied (e.g., repeating "In the next step"). Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as "move it into mixer and there water and oil are added in mixer." These limitations result in a Band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on the terms provided in the prompt (e.g., "storage silos", "mixer", "dough strips", "noodles discs", "cup noodle"). There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as "processed noodle filed in cups" instead of "filled into cups". Less common lexical items are rarely attempted, and spelling and grammatical forms of words are occasionally inaccurate (e.g., "eoght step process", "cookings"). This demonstrates a limited, minimally adequate range suited for Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a very limited range of sentence structures, mostly consisting of simple sentences joined by basic conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("flour are stored", "mixed flour moved it threw rollers"), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Sentences such as "mixed flour moved it threw rollers and sent it into dough strips to make cut in flour" contain multiple errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Control over grammar is weak, earning a Band 5.0.
