Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to describe the process of manufacturing instant noodles, but the response suffers from significant inaccuracies, omissions, and a weak overview. While the introduction states there are eight stages, the description struggles to clearly outline the sequence and fails to capture key features such as the storage silos, mixing, rolling, shaping into discs, frying and drying, adding vegetables and spices, and finally labelling and sealing. Phrases like 'flour was putting into storage silos' and 'fifty stage noodles are performed into discs' demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of process reporting conventions. Furthermore, the inclusion of outside information at the end ('it is blipped to a shopping facility') is not shown in the diagram. Overall, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks clear logical organization and progression. The paragraphing is rudimentary, with a confusing split between the introduction and a massive single body paragraph that mashes all the process steps together without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic linkers like 'Then' and 'After in sixth stage'. The progression from one step to the next feels disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact manufacturing sequence depicted in the diagram. Referencing is also faulty, as seen in phrases like 'At this fifty stage', which create confusion rather than cohesion. This level of organization aligns with a band score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and frequently marred by word-choice and collocation errors. Examples include 'flour was putting', 'especial machine', 'substents is father stretched', and 'fifty stage' (intended for fifth stage). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the process, such as 'manufactured', 'ingredients', and 'labelling', but these are undermined by severe morphological and lexical inaccuracies. There are also spelling and word formation errors throughout the text. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general topic, the frequency of errors places it firmly at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying on basic sentence structures that are frequently marred by serious structural and tense errors. Examples of faulty grammar include 'The diagram illustrates the how instant noodles are manufactured', 'how instant noodles are manufacturing in factory', and 'In conclusion, takes a considerably long time'. Passive and active voice are misused interchangeably (e.g., 'flour was putting', 'noodles are performed into discs'). Frequent errors in punctuation and verb forms cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. Consequently, the grammatical control is weak and reflects a band 5.0 level.
