Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to describe the entire process of manufacturing instant noodles from the initial flour storage to the final packaging stage, covering the main steps sequentially. However, the response lacks an overview statement, which is a key requirement for Academic Task 1, and relies on an informal, conversational tone ("As you can se in the image"). While the linear stages—such as mixing, rolling, cutting into sheets and strips, forming discs, frying, drying, and adding spices before sealing—are mentioned, some details are slightly imprecise. The length requirement of 150 words is just barely met, but the overall development and selection of core features place this response in Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is written as a single dense paragraph, lacking appropriate paragraphing to structure the information logically. Cohesive devices are extremely basic and repetitive, relying mostly on sequence words like "firstly", "in the second step", "in third step", "After that", and "In the end". Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage ("how they were maked"). There is a lack of advanced cohesive management, and the overall progression feels mechanical and disjointed rather than naturally flowing. These features correspond to a Band 5.0 rating for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, containing numerous spelling and morphological errors such as "noodels" instead of noodles, "maked" instead of made, "cuted" instead of cut, and "cupes" instead of cups. The range of vocabulary is limited to simple functional terms directly lifted or crudely paraphrased from the prompt. There is no demonstration of less common lexical items or appropriate technical vocabulary suitable for a process diagram. Due to frequent spelling errors and limited lexical range, this performance aligns with Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mainly of simple sentences and flawed attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ("in factory"), incorrect verb tenses and voices ("the flour was filled", "the noodles were geeting packed"), and punctuation errors such as run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. These persistent errors frequently strain the reader and reflect limited control over grammar, justifying a Band 5.0.
