Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by outlining the key stages of manufacturing instant noodles from flour storage to final packaging. However, some stages are under-developed or described with unclear mechanistic details, such as the transition from dough sheets to strips and discs. The overview attempts to capture the general progression from silos to labelling, but lacks precision and conciseness. While the main steps are identified, the relationship between certain sequential elements—such as how vegetables and spices are incorporated into the cups—is only partially clear, preventing the response from reaching a higher level of task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable beginning, middle, and end, satisfying basic organizational requirements. Paragraphing is attempted, though grouping ideas is sometimes awkward, as seen in the isolated concluding sentence. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'After this stage', and 'In conclusion' are employed to sequence the stages, but their use can feel mechanical and repetitive. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally imprecise, leading to minor disruptions in the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing basic terms related to manufacturing processes such as 'storage silos', 'mixer', 'rollers', and 'labelling'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items like 'significant amount', 'categories of flavour', and 'stable number', but these show some inaccuracy in word choice and collocation. Spelling is generally accurate, but awkward phrasing—such as 'immediate process' or 'cooked noodles and drying this process'—causes occasional strain for the reader and highlights a limited control of precise lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on fragmented phrases or incomplete clauses rather than fully formed independent sentences, such as 'Thereafter, this mixing flour then going through the rollers on a dough sheets.' Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, characterized by missing finite verbs, incorrect verb forms ('is used to cooked noodles'), and issues with article usage and noun-phrase agreement. Frequent grammatical errors require the reader to decode the intended meaning, reflecting persistent control limitations.
