Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting an overview of the instant noodle manufacturing process but failing to adequately detail all the key stages shown in the diagram. While the writer mentions the storage silos, mixer, rollers, and final packaging steps, the progression between stages is disjointed and several intermediate steps are omitted or poorly described, such as the formation of dough sheets and strips. Furthermore, the inclusion of speculative, non-graphic information at the end, such as 'People sale them and earn money,' demonstrates a misunderstanding of academic task requirements. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide a fully developed description of all sequential steps without introducing external commentary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some basic organization, separating the response into an introduction, body, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and often inaccurately, with excessive reliance on words like 'Then' and 'After that' to link sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are brief and fragmented, such as the repetitive conclusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact sequence of the manufacturing process smoothly. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of transitional markers and ensure that ideas flow logically from one step of the diagram to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for describing the process. The writer uses basic terms related to the diagram, such as 'flour', 'mixer', 'water', and 'oil', but struggles with word choice and word formation, as seen in errors like 'who' instead of 'how', 'is involves' instead of 'are involved', and 'is store' instead of 'is stored'. There are also awkward phrasings such as 'put them in the form of thin sheets'. These noticeable errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range and demonstrate accurate word forms and collocations appropriate for describing a technical process.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, mostly consisting of simple sentences and basic active voice constructions. Attempts at more complex or passive structures are frequently faulty, such as in 'water and oil added' or 'this dough was put into cups'. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, including 'several stages is involves' and 'This process is end with'. These frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater accuracy, particularly passive forms which are essential for describing manufacturing processes.
