Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 98 words. Consequently, the description of the manufacturing process is incomplete, cutting off before the final stages are fully reported. While the introduction correctly outlines the main stages depicted in the diagram, the body of the response only partially covers the entire sequential process. To achieve a higher band, the response must be sufficiently extended to cover all steps of the diagram fully and satisfy the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence of steps. The writer successfully uses cohesive devices such as 'In the first step', 'Subsequently', 'in the next step', 'followed by', and 'Afterwards' to guide the reader through the beginning and middle of the manufacturing process. However, because the text cuts off prematurely at the end, the paragraphing and final progression remain underdeveloped. To improve Coherence and Cohesion further, the text would need a fully realized concluding section and more varied, less mechanical transitions across a complete response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with appropriate attempts at less common items related to industrial processes, such as 'manufactured', 'storage silos', 'dough sheets', and 'discs'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'dyring' instead of 'drying', 'vegatable' instead of 'vegetable', and 'filally' instead of 'finally'. These minor slips do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from rising into a higher band. To improve, the writer should carefully proofread for spelling accuracy and incorporate a wider variety of precise terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as introductory prepositional phrases and passive voice constructions ('is manufactured', 'is stored', 'are prepared'). There are some minor grammatical and punctuation errors, including missing commas after introductory time markers and minor slips in sentence completion due to the text cutting off. However, the existing errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a wider range of error-free complex structures and complete all intended sentences.
