Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by outlining the main steps of the instant noodle manufacturing process, satisfying the minimum word requirement. However, the coverage remains somewhat limited and mechanical. While the opening attempts a broad overview, it introduces extraneous details not shown in the diagram, such as transportation through distribution channels. Key stages are mentioned, but some details are under-developed or imprecise; for instance, the description moves abruptly from the preparation of discs to cooking and drying without fully capturing the sequence of machinery depicted in the visual data. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to present a clearer, more fully developed overview of the main trends and stages without adding speculative information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates some basic organization with a clear attempt at an introduction and body paragraphs. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a repetitive and mechanical manner, relying heavily on simple connectors like "The first step", "In the next step", and "After that". Paragraphing is also an area for improvement, as the body of the process is condensed into a single dense paragraph rather than being logically broken down by distinct phases of production. To improve in this area, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive ties and structure the text into coherent paragraphs that guide the reader smoothly through each stage of the process.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic description of the process, featuring domain-specific terms such as "storage silos", "dough sheets", and "conveyor belt". However, the lexical range is limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic verbs like "is being", "change", and "put". There are also noticeable word-form and spelling inaccuracies that stem from lexical limitations, such as "labellling", "noddles", and "nad" instead of and. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the response to a lower band. To achieve a higher score, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of precise, less common vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling and word formation throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic active or passive constructions. Attempts at more complex structures frequently result in faulty syntax and awkward phrasing, such as "flour that is store in storage silos is being mixed" and "noodles put into cup in which vegetables and spices was already there". There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with improved control over grammatical accuracy, reducing the frequency of basic structural errors.
