Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the main stages of the instant noodle manufacturing process, beginning with the storage silos and concluding with the final labelling and sealing of the cups. The overview sentence successfully highlights the general nature of the process. However, some aspects of the task are addressed more fully than others; for instance, the intermediate mechanical steps such as the transformation from dough sheets to strips and discs are described in a rather repetitive and clumped manner without fully clarifying every relational transition shown in the diagram. To reach a higher level, the response would need to ensure all features are reported with greater clarity, extending the description of each sequential transformation more evenly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a chronological sequence from start to finish, reflecting the linear nature of the process diagram. Paragraphing is attempted, although the structure is somewhat fractured, grouping too many distinct steps into overly long paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to signal the progression of stages, such as 'The process begins with', 'In the next stage', and 'In the final stage'. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or overly simplistic (e.g., repeating 'and then', 'after this', and 'now'), which affects the natural flow of ideas. Improving paragraph organization and employing a wider variety of sophisticated cohesive links would enhance the overall logical flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate to describe the basic actions required by the task, successfully incorporating terms directly from the prompt such as 'storage silos', 'flour', 'mixer', 'rollers', 'vegetables', and 'spices'. There are notable lexical and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'to manufactured' instead of 'to manufacture', 'mixed noodles flour creates dough' instead of 'flour is mixed to create dough', and 'Dough Staright strip got circular traditional noodle shape'. These errors in word form and collocation indicate a limited and developing lexical range. To improve, the writer should practice using precise process-specific verbs and correct word forms to convey technical information more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, including missing articles ('into mixer', 'into cups'), incorrect verb forms ('how process is carried out to manufactured'), and run-on sentences with comma splices (e.g., 'transferred to the facility ,the flour is placed...'). Punctuation is frequently neglected, making it difficult for the reader to discern sentence boundaries in places. While these errors do not completely obscure the overall meaning, they occur regularly enough to restrict the score. Incorporating a wider variety of error-free complex structures and polishing basic punctuation and subject-verb agreement will greatly improve the grammatical score.
