Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of the instant noodle manufacturing process. An adequate overview is provided at the beginning, noting the total number of steps and the general progression from storage to final packaging. Key features such as the mixing of flour, water, and oil, the formation of dough sheets and strips, cooking in oil, and the addition of vegetables and spices are reported. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or vague, such as 'passes from several steps', which prevents the response from reaching a higher level. The selection of information is generally accurate and covers the sequence from the storage silos down to labelling and sealing, satisfying the requirements for a clear, relevant summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence following the stages of the diagram. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction and overview from the body details. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the process, such as 'Overall', 'It starts from', 'Then', 'Furtherafter', 'Subsequently', and 'Finally'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel a bit mechanical or awkward, as seen in phrases like 'The manufacturing of instant noodles immense by storing flour...' which disrupts the natural flow. While the progression of steps is generally clear, the mechanical handling of transitions keeps the cohesion at this level, showing aspects of more advanced logical organisation while still containing some clunky links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main steps of the process with terms like 'storage silos', 'mixer', 'dough sheets', 'vegetables and spices', and 'labelling and sealing'. There are several noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies that reflect a limited range, such as misspelling 'noddles' instead of noodles, using 'sunstantial' instead of substantial, and incorrect word forms like 'immense' instead of commences or begins. Additionally, collocation and word choice errors occur, such as 'water is putted in a mixer' (where 'put' is used informally or incorrectly for added). These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score due to inadequate control over less common vocabulary and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'The linear process diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles.' and passive structures like 'the dough sheets are formed by rollers'. There are several grammatical errors present, including awkward passive usage ('the flour is putted in a mixer', 'added in flour', 'added in that'), preposition errors ('passed from several steps'), and infinitive/gerund errors ('to made it ready'). These errors represent some mistakes in grammar and punctuation, though they rarely impede overall communication. The range of structures is somewhat limited, and frequent minor structural inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher control of complex sentences.
