The diagram explains the processing of instant noodles from raw material to final product which is noodles. The process comprises of eight stages and it is linear. Overall, the process starts from storage of silos all through to final stage of labelling and sealing of the noodles. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main task by outlining the eight-stage manufacturing process for instant noodles, identifying the starting point of flour in storage silos and the final stage of labelling and sealing. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For example, while the student mentions stages like the mixing of water and oil and the formation of dough sheets, the description lacks sufficient detail regarding the intermediate and later steps, such as the cooking and drying process or the addition of vegetables and spices. The overview provided in the opening and concluding sentences is overly repetitive and simplistic, merely restating that noodles are made from silos and flour without synthesizing the overarching progression of the diagram effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the text, with the writer attempting to guide the reader through the linear progression using sequencing markers such as 'Firstly', 'on the third stages', 'On the forth stage', and 'later on the final stage'. However, there is no clear overall progression due to mechanical and repetitive use of cohesive devices, particularly the constant repetition of 'on the... stage'. Paragraphing is poorly managed, as the entire response is compressed into a single block of text rather than being structured logically with an introduction, an overview, and distinct body paragraphs. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'for the storage', which leaves the exact purpose of certain steps ambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic terminology lifted directly from the prompt, such as 'storage silos', 'flour', 'dough sheets', and 'vegetables plus spices'. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors that detract from the quality of the writing, including 'lebaling' instead of 'labelling', 'tronsported' instead of 'transported', and 'conclusing' instead of 'conclusion'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are minimal, and awkward word choices, such as 'the processing of instant noodles from raw material to final product which is noodles', show a lack of precision and lexical flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including preposition and article inaccuracies as well as structural awkwardness, such as 'The process comprises of eight stages' (where 'comprises' should not be followed by 'of') and 'flour then it is mixed with water and oil its rolled on dough sheets' (run-on sentence with missing punctuation and incorrect verb forms). Subject-verb agreement and punctuation are inconsistently handled, and these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader in tracking the intended meaning.
