The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
the diagram below illustrates the process of making noodles in a manufacturing unit.
overall, to convert floor to noodles many steps were involved like mixing, sheeting, stripping, drying and adding vegetables and spices into the cups in final stage.
to begin floor was the raw material which was imported and stored in storage silos. later this floor was mixed with water and oil to make it as a sheets as required thickness. inorder to achieve a desired thickness this mixed mould was passed through rollers where it forms a thin sheet like structure furthermore inorder to achiece the desired shape of noodles it passed through strips where it cuts the sheets into specified shape.
leter this strips were rolled like a disc shape and passed them through a oil to make them fry before drying process. then these dried noodles are packed in cups by adding vegetables and species finally.therefore around seven stages are involves to make raw floor to instant noodles.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the overall process of manufacturing instant noodles, providing a general overview and outlining key stages from flour storage to final packaging. However, the coverage is only partial, as some parts of the diagram are missed or inadequately developed. For instance, the transition from dough sheets to strips and discs is described in a somewhat confused and repetitive manner, missing some of the clear mechanical steps shown in the visual prompt. While a basic sequence is present, the details remain limited and lack the full extension required for a higher band, reflecting an incomplete mechanical recount of the process.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a chronological sequence from the initial raw material to the final product. Paragraphing is attempted, although the body of the response is largely condensed into a single dense block with minimal structural separation. Cohesive devices are used to link the steps, such as 'later', 'furthermore', and 'then', but referencing is at times mechanical and repetitive. Paragraphing is not used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body details, and overview, leading to a somewhat disjointed progression that prevents the response from achieving a higher level of organizational flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for describing a manufacturing process. There are persistent vocabulary errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, most notably the recurring misspelling of 'floor' instead of 'flour', and 'inorder' instead of 'in order'. Other inaccuracies in word choice and form appear, such as 'mixed mould' and 'species' instead of 'spices'. While the vocabulary attempts to cover the steps of the diagram, these noticeable errors in spelling and lexical selection restrict the response to a lower band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student employs a mix of simple and basic complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammatical range and accuracy, including missing articles (e.g., 'passed through a oil'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward clause structures, such as 'to make it as a sheets as required thickness.' Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and a lack of capitalisation at the start of sentences. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect limited control over grammatical patterns.
