Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially because it relies heavily on a single, continuous run-on sentence without proper paragraphing or structural division to present an overview. While the writer attempts to trace the sequence of steps from storage silos to final labelling, some stages are described with limited clarity, and the overall summary is underdeveloped. Key features such as the integration of water, oil, and spices are mentioned, but the lack of clear grouping or an overview means the information is not fully reported. To improve, the writer needs to provide a clear introductory overview of the process and separate the stages into distinct paragraphs, ensuring each step of the diagram is clearly and logically outlined.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates some organisation by following the chronological steps of the diagram, but it lacks a clear overall progression due to the absence of paragraphing. The response is written as one long, dense block of text, which makes the flow mechanical and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either inadequate or overused in a repetitive manner, such as 'moving forward', 'moving with', and 'succceding to the next step'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation is largely neglected, resulting in run-on structures. To achieve a higher band, the writer must divide the response into logical paragraphs (such as an introduction/overview, a first half of the process, and a final stage) and use a wider variety of precise cohesive markers naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to describe a manufacturing process, featuring appropriate terms such as 'storage silos', 'mixer', 'dough sheets', and 'spices'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'cutted' (instead of cut), 'trasnferred' (spelling error), 'lable' (spelling error), and 'thier' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common phrasing lead to errors that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and use precise collocations relevant to process diagrams.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, consisting almost entirely of a single, highly convoluted run-on sentence joined by comma splices and conjunctions. There is a lack of control over basic punctuation, with periods and capital letters missing between independent clauses. Furthermore, frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage are present, such as 'The diagram below provide' and 'manufacturer provide lable'. Attempts at complex structures are faulty due to poor punctuation and excessive clause stacking. To reach a higher standard, the writer must use standard sentence boundaries, incorporate full stops, and demonstrate control over simple and complex sentence forms with accurate grammar.
