Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by outlining the eight key stages of the instant noodle manufacturing process, starting from the storage silos and concluding with labelling and sealing. However, the treatment of the process is somewhat limited and lacks sufficient detail in places. For example, intermediate steps such as the role of the rollers and the conversion of dough sheets into strips are only briefly or vaguely mentioned, such as writing "furthermore strips are made and then this stripes takes the shape of noodles discs". While an overview is attempted in the second paragraph, the response would benefit from a more thorough expansion of how the different mechanical stages connect and function together. The information presented is generally accurate according to the diagram, but the overall development of ideas remains basic, keeping the response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text shows some overall organisation with a clear beginning, middle, and end, utilizing basic introductory and concluding frameworks. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally mechanical and disrupted by long, run-on sentences that lack proper chunking. For instance, the third paragraph strings multiple clauses together with repetitive conjunctions like "and then", which creates a monotonous flow rather than a smooth, logical sequence. Paragraphing is also underdeveloped, as the body of the process is squeezed into overly dense blocks of text rather than being broken down into logical phases of production. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, with pronouns or connecting words failing to link ideas precisely, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience that reflects characteristics of this band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, successfully incorporating process-specific terms directly from the diagram such as "storage silos", "dough sheets", "noodles discs", and "labelling and sealing". However, the range of vocabulary remains limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic verbs and nouns. There are also noticeable lexical errors and inaccurate word forms that occasionally distract the reader, such as misspelling "stripes" instead of "strips", using "send" instead of "sent" (which also crosses into grammatical patterns), and awkward phrasing like "ready to distribute into the market". While communication is not severely impeded, the lack of precise synonyms, collocation control, and varied descriptive language prevents the response from achieving a higher lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies heavily on a limited range of sentence structures, primarily consisting of simple sentences joined together by coordinating conjunctions. When the student attempts more complex or extended sentences, they are often faulty, featuring missing verbs, run-on clauses, and poor punctuation control. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., "flour are mixed"), incorrect verb tenses and passive voice formations, and missing articles (e.g., "In first flour comes"). Prepositions and word forms within grammatical patterns are also mishandled, such as "stored into the silos" or "send for cooking". These frequent errors require the reader to decode the meaning and can cause some difficulty, placing the grammatical performance firmly at this level.
