Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response achieves a partial overview of the manufacturing process, mentioning the main stages from flour storage to final packaging and labelling. However, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum 150-word count at 138 words. While the writing attempts to outline the sequential steps, it presents limited and under-developed details regarding several transitions in the diagram, such as how the dough sheets, strips, and discs are specifically formed or how the cooking and drying process operates. To improve, the student must expand on the visual details and ensure the word count requirement is fully satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the text, with an opening overview and subsequent paragraphs outlining the sequence of steps. However, there is no clear overall progression due to fragmented sentences and inadequate cohesive devices. Linking words are mechanical or misused, such as 'then use of rollers', 'Further more', and 'in next process paking is start', which disrupt the logical flow of the process. Additionally, paragraphing is poorly handled, as the transition between the manufacturing phase and the packaging phase lacks clear structural separation. To reach a higher band, the student should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties and structure the text into coherent, logically developed paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for describing a simple industrial process. The student attempts some less common technical vocabulary such as 'storage silos', 'dough sheet', and 'labelling', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'paking', 'rooler frier', and 'heating rooler'. These lexical inaccuracies restrict precision and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the student needs to build a stronger repertoire of process-related terminology and ensure accurate word formation and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple clauses and faulty attempts at complex or compound constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('Firstly flour', 'to last step'), incorrect verb forms ('This process completed', 'paking is start'), and faulty prepositional phrases. These errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader in tracing the grammatical relationships between ideas. To progress, the student must focus on foundational grammar, including subject-verb agreement, accurate tense usage, and the correct formation of passive structures common in process descriptions.
