Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

This diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles.Overall, there are eight steps to manufacture instant noodles and it shows the whole procedure from the beginning.

Firstly, this all started from flour from storage sillos to the factory and then it stated the manufacturing procedure of instant noodles. The floor directly goes to a mixer where it mix the floor with water and oil which make a dough and that dough goes through a rollaers which make dough sheets. The dough sheets cut buy dough strips and get a shape of noodles.

After making the shape of noodles, it goes to noodles discs to get the round shape as instant noodles. and mix with cooking oil and dry the noodles discs which make them hard to away them to be rotten. Then they straightly go to cups and added vegetable as well as spices. After all of these procedures, those cups with instant noodles goes for labelling and sealing as well and its ready to sell.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the diagram as a manufacturing process and give a broad overview, noting that it has eight steps and ends with labelling and sealing. Most major stages are included, from flour and mixing through shaping, cooking, adding vegetables and spices, and packaging. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the flour is delivered to storage silos before moving to the mixer, rather than going “from storage sillos to the factory,” and the noodles are cooked in oil and dried before they enter cups. The explanation that drying makes them “hard to away them to be rotten” is not supported by the diagram. To strengthen the summary, describe the sequence more precisely and make the overview identify the main transformation from flour into packaged cups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable progression, using “Firstly” and “After” to move through the production stages, and the reader can generally follow the process from preparation to packaging. The opening and overview are separated from the process description, which helps establish the structure. However, the overview is vague (“the whole procedure from the beginning”), and some transitions make the sequence harder to track, particularly the shift from noodles taking a round shape to being cooked and dried. The sentence beginning “After making the shape of noodles” also combines several stages without clear boundaries. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details into clear early and later stages, with precise links such as “Next,” “Following this,” and “Finally.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “dough sheets,” “noodles discs,” “cooking oil,” and “labelling and sealing.” This gives the response a basic range suited to describing manufacture. However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or repetitive: “floor” is used for “flour,” “sillos” for “silos,” and “rollaers” for “rollers.” Phrases such as “the dough sheets cut buy dough strips” and “straightly go to cups” are difficult to interpret, while “hard to away them to be rotten” does not express a clear meaning. Choose precise process verbs and check spelling carefully; for example, say that sheets are “cut into strips” and the noodles are “placed into cups.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a relative clause in “a mixer where it mix the floor with water and oil.” The overall sequence is usually understandable, but control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent. For example, “where it mix” needs subject–verb agreement, and “which make a dough” needs an appropriate verb form. The sentence “The dough sheets cut buy dough strips and get a shape of noodles” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the stages. There are also punctuation problems, such as beginning “and mix with cooking oil” as a new sentence with a lowercase letter. Build clearer sentences around one or two stages at a time, and check agreement, tense, articles, and sentence boundaries.
