Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as having eight steps and give a basic account from flour storage through to labelling and sealing. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: the flour arrives by truck and is stored in silos, rather than being stored “in the largest van,” and water and oil are added to the mixer, not mixed in the rollers. The overview also says the process ends with labelling and sealing, while the diagram shows finished cups emerging on a conveyor afterward. Several stages are mentioned but not clearly explained, including the rollers forming sheets and strips and the addition of vegetables and spices as cups are filled. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Include a more accurate overview and clarify the sequence and equipment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The stages are presented in a generally logical order, and sequencing expressions such as “Next,” “Subsequently,” “Thereafter” and “At the end” help the reader follow the process. This coherent overall arrangement supports the explanation. However, the response is written as one paragraph, so the overview is not clearly separated from the stage-by-stage description. Some links are mechanical or confusing: “The process then moves on dough strips” does not make the relationship between sheets and strips clear, while “Once cooking oil and drying has been completed start adding…” creates an abrupt transition. Use a separate overview paragraph and group the stages into clear sections, with more precise references to what moves between machines.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “dough sheets,” “dough strips,” “noodles discs,” “cooking and drying,” and “labelling and sealing.” These terms show awareness of the diagram’s stages. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “storage of silos,” “largest van,” “mixed material goes in dough sheets,” and “noodles are properly manufactured.” Repetition of “process,” “noodles” and “discs” also limits the range. Aim for precise manufacturing verbs and natural phrases, for example, flour is “transported” to silos, dough is “rolled into sheets,” and cups are “sealed and labelled.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex sequencing, including “Once cooking oil and drying has been completed,” and uses both present-tense statements and passive forms. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “The process consist,” “Which starts,” “the material take,” and “noodle discs goes,” where agreement or sentence construction is faulty. The fragment “Which starts from…” should be joined to the preceding sentence, and “Once … has been completed start adding” lacks a clear subject. Practise accurate present-simple passive forms for process descriptions, such as “The dough is rolled into sheets” and “vegetables and spices are added,” while checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
