Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram below illustrates how instant noodles are manufactured in an factory.

Overall, the process of noodles manufacturing consists of eight steps starting from flour arrival from silos,to mixers, dough sheets, dough strips, noodle discs, cooking plus drying, packing and finally labelling.

The process of noodle manufacturing starts from the silos where raw flour is stored which is taken to the facility via truck. Raw matterials arrive and the mixing begins with water and oil to soften the dough. Which then are pressed into shets to be sent out for cutting into dough strips.

The strips, are then formed into the iconic disc shape. The duscs are then sent of to the fryer where they are fried in oil and scopped out and left to dry.The finished, discs are then alinghed to be filled into ready made cups filled with veggies and spices.Disc filled cups are then sent out to the packaging to be labelled and selaled for protection. After all the steps are completed the noodles are sent out to distributers to be put on supermarket shelves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main sequence from flour storage through mixing, shaping, cooking, adding ingredients, and packaging, and your overview identifies the process as a series of stages. This gives the reader a generally accurate account. However, some details are unclear or not fully grounded in the diagram: the cups are filled with vegetables and spices before the labelling and sealing stage, whereas “ready made cups filled with veggies and spices” can suggest they are already filled. The final reference to distribution and supermarket shelves is not shown, and “eight steps” does not quite match the way you enumerate the stages. To strengthen the overview, describe the process as a linear production sequence and report only the stages shown, including the rollers and the addition of cups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an overview is followed by two paragraphs describing the stages, and the sequence is mostly easy to follow. Time and sequence markers such as “starts,” “then,” and “After all the steps” help guide the reader. Some links are less effective, however. The fragment “Which then are pressed into sheets” is detached from the preceding sentence, and the comma in “The strips, are then formed” interrupts the flow. The overview also compresses several stages into a list, while the final sentence introduces distribution without a clear connection to the diagram. Use complete sentences and clearer stage-to-stage links, and keep each paragraph focused on the process shown.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “silos,” “dough strips,” “disc shape,” “fryer,” and “labelled,” so the reader can understand the general manufacturing sequence. There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “iconic disc shape,” though “iconic” is not appropriate for a neutral process description. Several spelling errors and imprecise or informal choices reduce accuracy: “matterials,” “shets,” “duscs,” “scopped,” “alinghed,” and “selaled” make the account look less controlled, while “sent out” is repeated and vague. Aim for accurate spelling and precise process verbs, such as “fed,” “shaped,” “dried,” and “sealed,” rather than conversational or unsupported expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including a passive construction in “are then formed” and a relative clause in “where raw flour is stored.” However, control is uneven, and several sentence-boundary and clause-structure problems make parts difficult to read. “Which then are pressed into sheets” is a dependent clause used as a sentence, while “The strips, are then formed” has incorrect comma placement. The opening also has an article error in “in an factory,” and “Overall, the” lacks spacing after the comma. Some sentences combine many actions without clear grammatical links, particularly the final description of filling and packaging. Practise complete clauses, accurate articles, and punctuation, while retaining the passive forms that suit a process report.
