IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given picture illustrates that how fast noodles are manufactured while the process has been completed with the help of several apparatus which are rollers, sheets, strips, discs, cups and many more.
By visualizing the given information, it is clearly seen that manufacturing instant noodles completed in 8 steps. At the outset, the flour is stored in large sphere shape rooms where a truck takes liters of flour in the tanks. Furthermore, it is put in mixer and water as well as oil are added in it then mixer convert them in rollers. After that, dough rollers are converted in sheets, those sheets are converted to strips from the machine. The next machine convert dough strips to noodles discs. Moreover, cooking and drying process take place. Moving further, these noodles are kept in cups where vegetables and spices are added. Then the cups go to the final step. In this cups got labbeled and sealed. This is how whole process of making noodles take place.
To sum up, this process is completed in several steps and every step is important. If, we skip any step then the process will get halted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as a sequence and include several key stages, from flour storage and mixing through shaping, cooking, and packaging. However, the account only partially reports the diagram: the overview that it has eight steps is not clearly supported by the stages you describe, and some important details are missing or inaccurate. For example, the flour is stored in silos, but the truck delivers flour to them; it does not take flour away. The mixer produces dough, which is then rolled into sheets, rather than converting the mixture into rollers. You also omit the addition of water and oil in the opening summary and do not clearly explain that the noodles are cooked in oil and dried before vegetables and spices are added. A more accurate overview and fuller stage descriptions would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable sequence, and signposts such as “At the outset,” “After that,” and “Moving further” help the reader follow the manufacturing stages. The information is presented in a broadly logical order, from flour storage to the finished cups. However, the progression is sometimes weakened by unclear references and mechanical linking. In “then mixer convert them in rollers,” it is difficult to tell what “them” refers to, while “Moreover” does not clearly signal the relationship between cooking and the preceding stage. The opening and closing statements also repeat the general idea that the process has several steps without adding useful information. Use clearer paragraphing, refer explicitly to each material or product, and rely on precise stage-to-stage links rather than repeated sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “dough sheets,” “strips,” “noodles discs,” “cooking,” and “sealed,” which helps communicate the main stages. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the process difficult to picture. “Sphere shape rooms” is not an appropriate description of storage silos, and “the truck takes liters of flour in the tanks” does not clearly express delivery. “Mixer convert them in rollers” also confuses the equipment with the dough product. There are spelling errors such as “labbeled,” and repeated general terms such as “process” and “step” reduce precision. Choose standard manufacturing terms and check spelling; for example, describe flour as being “transported by truck” and the mixture as being “rolled into sheets.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect stages using longer sentences and sequencing clauses, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. The opening phrase “illustrates that how fast noodles are manufactured” has an incorrect clause pattern, and “manufacturing instant noodles completed in 8 steps” is missing a suitable passive verb. Subject–verb agreement is also inconsistent in “mixer convert” and “machine convert.” Articles and sentence construction need attention in phrases such as “it is put in mixer” and “In this cups got labbeled and sealed.” Some sentences combine several stages without clear grammatical links, making the sequence harder to follow. Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions, such as “The flour is mixed with water and oil,” and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
