Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates information about making of instant noodles, from the intial stage of storage silos to the final stage of labelling and sealing.
Overall, the process consists of 8 main stages, begining with storage silos and conclusing with labelling and sealing of product. Throughout the process, main steps such as dough sheets and adding vegetables and spices takes place. The stages occur in a linear sequence, with each step contributing to the production of the final product.
Intially, the process begins when silos taken from the storage then makin flour. Following this, in second step, water and oil is added into the flour to make dough sheets by rollers which is 3 stage. The resulting material is then cut into strips before being transformed to noodles discs. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the process as a sequence and include several key stages, including mixing, forming sheets and strips, cooking and drying, and adding vegetables and spices. The overview also gives the correct broad direction from storage to packaging. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: “silos taken from the storage then makin flour” misrepresents the flour being delivered to the silos, and the account does not clearly explain that the dough is rolled into sheets before being cut into strips and shaped into discs. The final stage is mentioned but not fully described as labelling and sealing the cups. To strengthen the response, report each major transition precisely and make the overview more informative about the full production sequence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and a description of the earlier and later stages. Sequencing expressions such as “Following this,” “Once this step completed,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the process. However, progression is sometimes disrupted by unclear links and incomplete statements, particularly “Once this step completed cooking and drying noodle is sixth stage” and the abrupt ending, “Finally, labelling and sealing dome.” The overview also repeats the starting and ending stages already stated in the introduction without adding much detail. Use complete sentences for each stage, connect them in chronological order, and ensure the final sentence clearly describes the finished cups emerging from the process.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “storage silos,” “dough sheets,” “strips,” “noodles discs,” and “labelling and sealing,” so the reader can identify the main stages. There are also attempts to describe transformation, such as “being transformed,” although some phrasing is imprecise or unnatural. For example, “silos taken from the storage then makin flour” does not clearly express the movement of flour into the silos, while “vegatebles and spices are adding” and “sealing dome” make the later stages difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “intial,” “begining,” and “conclusing” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable range of process verbs and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “The resulting material is then cut into strips before being transformed to noodles discs.” This shows some ability to describe a sequence using passive constructions and time clauses. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are common enough to make several stages unclear. Examples include “the process consists of 8 main stages, begining,” “water and oil is added,” and “vegatebles and spices are adding.” The sentence beginning “Once this step completed” is also missing a finite verb, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate passive forms, such as “are added” and “is cooked,” and check that every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
