Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram represents the process of manufacturing the instant noodles.
This process is acheive through different steps. Therse are: Storage Silos, Mixer, Dough sheets, Dough strips, Noodles discs, Cooking+drying, Vegetable+spices and Labelling+sealing.
Firstly, a company order flour from flour mills then that flour is stored in Storage silos. After that the flour is insert in the mixer with water and oil. The roller role the mixture into dough sheets. Then these sheets convert into dough strips. After that they taravel on belt to a noodle disc shaped container to shape the mixture strips into noodles shape. After that Cooking oil is sprayed on noodles discs and after spray next step is drying the noodles discs. Further more add discs into the cups and then the vegetables and other spices is add in the cups. At last now lables machine labbeling sealing the cup. After that the final product is made.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as the manufacture of instant noodles and include several central stages, from flour storage through mixing, shaping, cooking and packaging. However, the account only partially reports the diagram: it does not clearly describe the full sequence from dough sheets to strips to noodle discs, and the overview is mainly a list rather than a summary of the process’s overall progression. Some details are inaccurate or unsupported: the diagram does not show flour being ordered from mills, oil being sprayed onto the noodles, or a belt carrying strips to a disc-shaped container. It shows the discs being cooked in oil and dried, then vegetables and spices being added as the cups are filled. Report the stages in the diagram’s order and distinguish clearly between what is shown and what is inferred.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable sequence, supported by time markers such as “Firstly,” “After that,” “Then” and “At last.” This helps the reader follow the process from storage to the finished product. However, the stages are presented in one long paragraph, and the opening list repeats information that is then described again. Some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “After that Cooking oil is sprayed … and after spray next step is drying,” which makes the relationship between cooking and drying harder to follow. Organise the report into a brief overview and a sequenced description, and use clearer links to show how one stage leads to the next. This would make the progression more controlled and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “dough sheets,” “dough strips,” “noodles discs” and “labelling,” so the reader can recognise many of the stages. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the process difficult to picture. For example, “the roller role the mixture” and “a noodle disc shaped container” do not describe the machinery clearly; “taravel” and “lables” also contain spelling errors. “Vegetables and other spices is add” uses an imprecise form, while “final product is made” is vague. Use the diagram’s labels where possible and choose precise process verbs such as “pass through,” “form,” “cook” and “seal.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect stages in longer sentences, for example, “After that the flour is insert in the mixer with water and oil,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in verb forms and agreement occur frequently. Examples include “a company order flour,” “the flour is insert,” “these sheets convert,” and “the vegetables … is add”; passive forms are especially important when describing a manufacturing process. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “After that Cooking oil…” and the run-on sequence about spraying and drying. Practise consistent present simple passive constructions, such as “The flour is mixed with water and oil,” and check subject–verb agreement and punctuation in each sentence.
