Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the process as manufacturing noodles and give a basic start-to-finish overview, mentioning storage first and labelling and sealing last. However, the account is very incomplete: it stops after the mixer and does not report the rollers, dough strips, noodle discs, cooking and drying, or the addition of vegetables and spices and cups. The overview also calls the flour storage “storing soil,” which misrepresents the first stage, and the claim that cooking and drying is the main process is not supported as a comparison by the diagram. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, so it cannot provide the necessary coverage. Describe the full sequence accurately and include the key transformations and additions at the later stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence, an overview, and a short process description. Sequencing words such as “Overall,” “To commence with,” and “subsequently” show an awareness that the stages need to be presented in order. However, progression breaks down in the final sentence: several stages are compressed together, and the relationship between the mixer, water and oil, and dough sheets is difficult to follow. The response ends before the process is completed, so the reader receives no coherent account of the later stages. Use one paragraph for the overview and another for the stages, linking each step clearly with accurate sequencing expressions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “manufacturing,” “mixer,” “cooking,” and “labelling and sealing,” and these terms help identify the general topic. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or spellings make the description unclear. “Storing soil” appears to be an inaccurate rendering of “storage silos,” while “mixtuer” is misspelled and “dough sheets” is introduced without a clear description of how they are formed. Use the diagram’s precise nouns and verbs, such as “flour,” “silos,” “rollers,” “strips,” and “discs,” and vary process verbs with choices such as “is transferred,” “is shaped,” and “is packaged.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and a longer sequence, and the opening sentence is grammatically clear. However, the longer sentence beginning “To commence with” has faulty structure: “subsequently, is a mixer” lacks a clear subject and verb relationship, and the final phrase “next to dough sheets” does not form a complete clause. The overview also needs articles and more accurate sentence construction: write “the initial stage” and “the final stage,” rather than “initiall stage” and “final stage.” Punctuation is also needed to separate the stages in the long sentence. Practise writing each process step as a complete passive sentence, for example, “The flour is transferred to a mixer, where water and oil are added.”
