Student answer (Band 5.5)
The flow chart illustrates the linear process involving in the production of cup noodles.
Overall, the process consists of seven distinct steps, beginning with storage silos in containers and sealing the cups for marketing.
Initially, storage silos and flour in large containers mixed in a mixer with water and oil to made fine dough. This dough through the rollers shifted to dough sheet which is then cut into strips.Once the process of preparing a dough to strips is completed, these strips now molded into noddles dics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as making cup noodles and include several relevant stages, such as mixing, forming strips and discs, cooking, adding vegetables and spices, and sealing. However, the account is incomplete and sometimes misrepresents the diagram: it has eight numbered stages, not seven, and the opening description of “storage silos in containers” is unclear. The overview gives only a partial summary, while the final sentence is cut off and does not clearly report the finished product. The response also falls 29 words short of the required minimum, limiting the detail you can provide. To strengthen the report, cover the full sequence accurately, including the flour delivery, rollers, cups, and labelling, and give a clear overview of the start and end points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall order: an introduction and overview are followed by stages from mixing through to packaging. Sequencing phrases such as “Initially,” “Once,” and “Finally” help the reader follow the process. However, the progression becomes difficult to track where sentences are incomplete or connections are unclear, for example, “This dough through the rollers shifted to dough sheet” and “these cups containing vegetables and spices.” The final line also ends abruptly, weakening the conclusion. Paragraphing is limited, and some references such as “these cups” are unclear because the cups have not been introduced as a separate stage. Use complete sentences and group the process into clear early and later stages, with precise links between each product and the next step.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “rollers,” “strips,” “cooking oil,” “vegetables and spices,” and “sealing.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the manufacturing stages. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unclear, such as “dics,” “noddles,” “molded,” and “gathered to labled.” Phrases such as “storage silos in containers” and “dough to strips” do not express the intended relationships precisely. Aim for accurate process terms and natural collocations, such as “the dough is rolled into sheets” and “the cups are labelled and sealed.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise verbs will make the description easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both an overview and longer sentences, including a sequence linked with “which is then,” so there is some effort to vary sentence structure. However, control is limited, and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “to made fine dough” uses the wrong verb form, while “This dough through the rollers shifted” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Passive forms are often incomplete or inconsistent: “these strips now molded” and “these cups containing vegetables” need a finite verb, such as “are moulded” and “are filled.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, including missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate passive constructions for process descriptions and check that every sentence has a subject and a correctly formed verb.
