The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided process diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles.
Overall, producing instant noodles is an eight step process, which starts from storing floor in silos and ends with labeling and sealing. This system involves storing, mixing, converting to sheet and stripes , production of noodles discs , cooking drying, labelling and sealing.
Initially, floor is stored in silos then it is mixed with water and oil in mixer. Later it is transferred to rollers where it is further converted into dough sheets and dough stripes.
Following this noodles discs are made. Then the noodles discs are cooked and dried.. Later, this is transferred to cups. To give a flavour vegetables and spices are added to the cups of cooks noodles .Produced instant noodles cups are then labelled and sealed properly as a final process.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the process as having eight stages and give a clear start and finish, while covering the main sequence from flour storage through mixing, shaping, cooking and packaging. However, the overview says production ends with labelling and sealing, whereas the diagram shows these as the final packaging stage after vegetables and spices are added; the finished cups then emerge on a conveyor. Some details are also unclear or inaccurate: the noodles are cooked in oil and dried, and the cups are filled with vegetables and spices, rather than the noodles simply being transferred to cups. The response is 14 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to report the stages fully. Add a little more precise detail about the shaping and packaging stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by stages in chronological order. Sequencing expressions such as “Initially,” “Later,” and “Following this” help the reader track the process, and the main progression is generally easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of an overall coherent arrangement and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, the overview repeats several stages in a list, and the final paragraph’s links are sometimes abrupt: “Following this noodles discs are made” does not clearly connect the shaping stages to disc formation. There is also an isolated full stop after the final paragraph. Group related stages into clearer sentences and use references such as “these discs” consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “silos,” “mixer,” “rollers,” “dough sheets,” “noodles discs,” and “labelled and sealed,” so the reader can identify most stages. The range is adequate for the topic, but several noticeable word-choice, spelling and collocation problems reduce precision. “Floor” should be “flour,” “stripes” should be “strips,” and “cooks noodles” appears to mean “cooked noodles.” The phrase “production of noodles discs” is also awkward, while “transferred to cups” does not clearly describe the filling stage. Aim for accurate technical terms and natural process collocations, such as “formed into strips” and “placed in cups.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause “which starts from…” and the sequence “where it is further converted…”. The process is mostly understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “producing instant noodles is an eight step process” needs a hyphen in the compound modifier, and “This system involves storing, mixing, converting…” lacks parallel, clearly formed stage descriptions. In “Then the noodles discs are cooked and dried.. Later, this is transferred to cups,” the punctuation is faulty and the singular “this” has an unclear reference to plural noodles. There are also missing spaces after full stops. Check sentence boundaries, agreement and pronoun references, and vary sentence patterns while keeping each stage grammatically complete.
