Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Several individuals say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people believe that advertising is so common that we do not pay much attention to it. I believe that advertising is extremely commanding us to buy things.

On the one hand, some people with me believe that advertising play a strong role in persuading us to buy things because advertising of a product is mostly done by the celebrities whom we follow and like the most so we would obviously try the product once in our life which they advertised and prefer us to use because it is human psychology that the thing which is shown to us again and again we love to try it once in our life. For instance if we follow a celebrity and he advertise a thing we would also love to use it because it used by the person whom we follow.

On the other hand, other people believe that advertising is so common so we no longer pay attention to it. This happens because they may become bored from it and they no loger want to see the product again and again. After seeing the products again and again we donot give much attention to the product which is human psychology. For instance, if we see a product mulyiple times so we do not want to see it again or to use it.

In conclusion, advertising plays an important role on our mind and persue us to buy things and mostly we use the products which are advertised by celebrities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both stated views and give a clear preference for the idea that advertising persuades people, so the response is relevant to the task. The celebrity example supports this position, but the explanation is repetitive and broad: the claim that repeated exposure makes people want to try a product is restated without much detail. The opposing view is also mentioned, but its explanation—that people become bored—would benefit from a more specific example or a clearer account of when advertising is ignored. The conclusion repeats your position rather than adding a final insight. The response is 247 words, so it is three words below the required minimum; the 14 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop both views more fully and ensure the response meets the minimum length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow. However, progression within the body paragraphs is less effective because similar points are repeated, particularly the idea of seeing a product “again and again.” Some connections are also mechanical or unclear; for example, “because advertising of a product is mostly done by the celebrities whom we follow” leads into a long chain of ideas without clear separation. Use shorter sentences to show how each reason supports the paragraph’s main point, and vary linking and referencing rather than relying on repeated phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “persuading,” “advertised,” “celebrity,” and “human psychology.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. “Extremely commanding us” does not express your intended meaning naturally, while “bored from it” and “plays an important role on our mind” use unsuitable collocations. There are also spelling errors, including “loger,” “donot,” “mulyiple,” and “persue.” Repeated use of “product,” “advertising,” and “again and again” further limits variety. Build a small set of accurate topic-specific phrases and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a conditional example beginning “if we follow a celebrity.” However, complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to control. For example, “advertising play a strong role” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “he advertise a thing” also needs the verb form to agree with its subject. The long sentence beginning “because advertising of a product…” joins several clauses without clear punctuation, making the relationships between ideas harder to follow. Other issues include “it used by the person,” which is missing an auxiliary verb, and inconsistent sentence punctuation. Practise accurate agreement and complete clause structures, then divide long sentences into clearer units.
