Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few member of society argue that advertising is highly best way at encouraging us to buy things. other people consider that advertising s so common we no longer gives interest to it. Nowadays, advertising has become an important part of people's daily lives. firstly I will discuss both sides and also give my opinion.

on the hand I describe about peoples who urge to buy online things. because first reason is that majority of individuals at this modern time have mobile phones and all of them are using mobile phones. they also watch adds on mobile For example my father have a mobile while scrolling he watch a add about watches collection adds attracts my father and my father order this watch for himself. another reason is that now time is modern peoples have their bank account in their mobiles when he likes anything on adds they ordered them and give payment fast by their bank accounts. For instance I gave my example own I saw a helmet on Instagram add I ordered them and give their full payment online.

In contrast members who think adds is common he think like that because the reason is majority of adds if we open Instagram we watches adds like Facebook and other social media applications in this ways adds are do not attract peoples instead they are tired from it I gave example about this a boy who open his mobile for scrolling he watches some adds firstly he enjoyed it then he tired off . Another reason is that Time duration peoples do not have more time to spend on mobile but when he opens for watching their favorite videos so he faces adds Because they are tired, they will prefer to skip advertisements. For instance employ who works at a factory and work for a whole day and have to watch mobile before sleeping he skip adds as soon as possible because he watches his attractive drama.

In my opinion I prefer those peoples who think adds is a common thing and do not attract it Due to this a scheme by company owners and adds developers we try to away from this since we spend our money on negative thing.

In conclusion although advertising can encourage some people to buy products, I believe that it is no longer as effective as before. This is because advertisements are everywhere, and people have busy daily routines, so they usually ignore or skip them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and relies heavily on personal anecdotes (e.g., the father and the helmet) rather than broader, more analytical arguments. While the prompt is addressed, the explanation of why advertising is 'common' could be more sophisticated. The conclusion is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is limited by the informal tone and the reliance on simple examples. To improve, focus on discussing the psychological or societal impact of advertising rather than just personal experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'on the hand', 'in this ways'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas smoothly between sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with the use of pronouns like 'he' to refer to 'people' or 'individuals'. While there is a logical progression, the transitions between the two viewpoints and the personal opinion could be more fluid and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'gives interest to it' instead of 'pays attention to it', and 'adds' used as a noun instead of 'advertisements'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The student struggles with basic collocations, which occasionally forces the reader to infer the intended meaning. Expanding the range of synonyms and learning formal collocations would significantly improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('Few member', 'my father have'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complex forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many run-on sentences and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high density of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses is essential for improvement.
