IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this quickly moving world, people do not have time to visit shops or malls physically. The technology is making everything fast and easy to everyone. Mostly people shows interest in products after seeing them in advertisement. Advertisement can make more impact in everyone's mind rather than product shows in shops.
Some people things advertisement is best to boost your sells. as it is social media time you can viral your items in seconds. I know some one who is doing a simple cloths business. after that is start making videos of his cloths. In the begging it did not works but he never gave up. After some times it goes viral and gets millions views on his videos. Because of that he saw 80 percent increase in his sells. As for now he is very famous in clothing brands.
In addition i must want to mention some effects on advertising. As we know many people specially older ones do not like watching social media. So they cannot get advertisement because of which it is waste on time and money. Also many people have trust issue with the advertisement they thinks its only act to attract customers not to provide best product. Let me tell you my on own story, once i saw a ad of a beautiful pair of shoes. I love the design and colour but when i order it as well as i received it was totally different what i saw. after that i did not buy anything online after watching some ads.
if you take my opinion, i am fully agree with that advertisement is very succesful

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader analysis. The conclusion is underdeveloped, as it merely states agreement without summarizing the main points or providing a final synthesis of the arguments. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of advertising in society more generally, rather than focusing solely on individual experiences, and ensure your position is clearly articulated throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'In addition i must want to mention', 'As for now'). There are instances where the logical flow between sentences is disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from the clothing business example to the conclusion of that paragraph is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'you can viral your items' (should be 'make your items go viral') and 'it is waste on time' (should be 'a waste of time'). The repetition of basic terms like 'advertisement' and 'people' limits the sophistication of the response. To improve, focus on using more varied synonyms and collocations, and pay closer attention to word forms and prepositions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people shows interest', 'Some people things'), article usage, and tense consistency. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
