Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often debates whether advertising remains a powerful tool that effectively drives consumer behavior or if it has become so ubiquitous that the public has grow indifferent to it. While the sheer volume of marketing material has led to a degree of consumer fatigue, i believe that modern, data driven advertising remains highly successful at persuading people to purchase products.
On one hand, there is a strong argument that advertising continues to be exceptionally persuasive. Modern marketing strategies do not merely showcase products; they leverage sophisticated psychological techniques and advanced algorithms to create artificial needs. For instance, social media platforms track users data and search histories to display highly personalized advertisement is likely to buy. This target approach, combined with celebrity and influencer endorsement, establishes an emotional connection with consumer , making it incredibly difficult to resist purchasing impulses, consequently, advertising successfully maintains its power to drive global consumption
On the other hand, many people argue that the omnipresence of marketing has rendered it ineffective. In today's digital age, individuals are bombarded with thousands of promotional messages daily, ranging from television commercials to internet pop-ups. This sensory overload has resulted in a phenomenon content. Furthermore, the widespread adoption of ad-blocking software and the tendency to skip commercials demonstrate an active resistance to marketing efforts. From this perspective, the saturation of advertisements has desensitized the public, causing them to tune out the messages entirely.
In my opinion, although generic and traditional advertisements are increasingly ignored, advertising as a whole is far from obsolete rather than losing its efficacy, marketing has simply evolved. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed both views and provided a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, particularly the discussion on data-driven marketing and the counter-argument regarding ad-blocking. However, the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, which means the conclusion is incomplete. This prevents a full development of your final point and impacts the overall task response. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion is fully articulated and that you have fully developed all points raised in your introduction. Despite the incomplete ending, the main body paragraphs provide a solid exploration of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader through your arguments. The progression of ideas is generally smooth. However, the abrupt ending creates a significant issue with coherence at the end of the text. Additionally, some transitions could be more sophisticated; for example, the phrase 'This sensory overload has resulted in a phenomenon content' is grammatically incomplete and lacks a clear link to the preceding sentence. Improving the precision of your linking phrases will help elevate your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including terms like 'ubiquitous,' 'consumer fatigue,' 'sophisticated,' and 'desensitized.' This shows an ability to use less common lexical items with some awareness of style. There are minor errors, such as 'grow indifferent' (should be 'grown') and 'target approach' (should be 'targeted approach'). These errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring that your collocations are accurate and that you are using the correct word forms in all instances. Overall, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'While the sheer volume... I believe that...' and 'Advertisers now use... which consumers absorb...'. There are several grammatical slips, including 'It is often debates' (should be 'debated'), 'users data' (should be 'users' data'), and 'advertisement is likely to buy' (which is syntactically confused). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some missing commas. The incomplete final sentence is a major grammatical error that leaves the thought unfinished. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences are complete will help you achieve a higher band.
