Student answer (Band 6.5)

According to a group, marketing is high level of successful at convince individuals to get products. In contrast, other opine that advertising is so common that all people no longer pay attention to it. This essay will discuss both the views and give my opinion in the following paragraph.

Certainly, there are numerous reasons to support the former view that advertising is successful to convince individuals to buy. The most notable one is that psychological triggers to the consumer. In simple terms, ads use emotional appeal, status symbols, and fear of missing out. Furthermore, it will attract consumers to buy that product by instantly. For example, the FOMO is attract the individual mind to buy things because of less time of discount or few products left. Another point worth mentioning is that companies earn more profit by marketing the products. In other words, customers buy more products because of seen the advertised in TV, mobiles and so on. Consequently, by selling more product then companies earn more profit and invest in advertising by doing their best in it.

On the other hand, the latter view has also importance. Firstly, peoples can not focus in advertise because of they want to buy better things. To elaborate, customers was focused in brand because they want branded clothes to wear and feel comfortable. Moreover, wear branded clothes is symbol of rich and personality. As a result, they use to avoid such local advertise and can’t attention on this. Secondly, overload information are avoided by the people. To be more specific, there are too many ads on TV, phones, and streets, so our brains learn to tune them out. For example, youngsters cannot do more attention on ads and more information.

In conclusion, the points mentioned above, it can be recapitulated that the both views has valid reasons. However, I personally believe that advertising is important for companies because it generates more employees. Apart from this, it also has effective psychological.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'psychological triggers' is mentioned but not fully explored with depth. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesise the arguments presented. While the position is clear, the supporting points lack the necessary extension to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example that directly links back to the prompt's core question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'In conclusion, the points mentioned above, it can be recapitulated that...'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words will help create a more cohesive and professional-sounding argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'high level of successful at convince' instead of 'highly successful at convincing' and 'overload information' instead of 'information overload'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated academic vocabulary, such as 'ubiquitous' instead of 'common' or 'persuasive techniques' instead of 'psychological triggers'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('overload information are avoided', 'the both views has valid reasons') and incorrect verb forms ('customers was focused', 'can’t attention on this'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct verb tense usage would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
