Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years , the question of whether advertising is successful at persuading the public to purchase thing or they are becoming common that people no longer pay attention . In my view , advertising has successfully convinced people to buy things .

Due to false marking , they hide the negative effect of the product by only showing the positive aspect of it , will make people believe that its a good investment before thinking a second time . As the literacy rate of population of a certain country is not high, people will believe what they are being shown . For example , India is country where more than half of the population is not educated , they buy the product of the advertisement they are shown before thing twice .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on generalizations. For instance, the claim regarding literacy rates in India is a sweeping generalization that lacks nuance and does not fully support the argument about advertising's effectiveness. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated and better linked to the prompt's core tension between persuasion and consumer apathy. The conclusion is brief and repeats the main point without adding depth to the discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To began with', 'Contradicting', and 'In conclusion', though some are used incorrectly or awkwardly (e.g., 'Contradicting' should be 'In contrast' or 'Conversely'). The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints and the writer's opinion, which helps the reader follow the argument despite some linguistic inaccuracies.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate but limited. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'marking an item' instead of 'marketing' and 'smallest of the place' instead of 'smallest of places'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'advertising agencies' and 'illusion', but the overall control is inconsistent. Some errors, such as 'they can shown or founded', indicate a lack of precision that occasionally hinders the clarity of the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('many people believes', 'People understands'), incorrect verb forms ('they can shown or founded'), and missing articles or prepositions. While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors require the reader to work harder to interpret the intended message. The punctuation is mostly functional, but the frequency of grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
