Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, it is an increasing trend of advertisement through social media platforms. Some argue that advertising is successful in convincing people to buy things, while others believe that we ignore it. This essay will discuss both perspectives before giving my opinion.

To begin with, proponents of advertisement believe that it has strong power to allure the customers. By displaying attractive commercials on social media and television, people gets admire to it easily and eager to buy the product at any cost. When colorful ads along with music is showing on screen, children and even youngsters get attracted to them. For example, the mouth watering advertisement of ice cream emphasize the children to get it by convincing their parents, although it is quite expensive. Hence commercials have a great influence in people's lives.

On the other hand, others opine that repetitive ads are annoying that could lead to ignorance. People hardly pay attention on them because they are no longer interested it them. Sometimes people are watching their favourite season and movies , displaying ads between it can cause distraction and frustration. Some commercials are fraudulant, because of that people waste a lot of money. Nowadays people are aware of the ads and try to avoid them to prevent any consequences in the future. For instance, by watching a property commercial, lot of individuals have suffered from huge money loss. Therefore, people do not pay attention to ads.

In my opinion, i am not in favor of ads that are irritative and showed again and again. Ads showing between dramas, educational, and informative video should be banned as it divert our concentration. Government should take actions on companies showing ads that are deceptive and displaying products that are injurious to health.

In conclusion, although advertisement has an ability to influence people buy things, many individuals are ignoring it because it is repetitive and not productive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a clear example regarding children and ice cream, the second body paragraph relies on somewhat disjointed points, such as the mention of property fraud, which feels slightly tangential to the general concept of 'ignoring' advertising. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved by focusing more on the psychological aspect of why people ignore ads rather than focusing heavily on fraud. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the idea of repetitive ads and the mention of fraudulent commercials is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'interested it them'. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas remains coherent throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'proponents', 'allure', and 'fraudulant' (spelled incorrectly as 'fraudulant'). However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice, such as 'people gets admire to it' and 'irritative'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the argument. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more natural collocations and ensure accurate spelling of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people gets admire') and prepositional usage ('pay attention on them'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization of 'i'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically verb forms and consistent sentence punctuation.
