Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. I believe that advertising plays and important role in buying things and to influence the consumer.
On one hand, the advertising plays an important role in buying things as the marketing influence the people by showing the good qualities of the product and benefits of it. Some companies hire a celebrity in there advertisement as they can influence the people. The people buy the product as they are shown in their day to day life as the advertisement is shown everywhere like in mobile phones, TV and hoardings on streets. Because of these the people get influence and buy the product at least one time.
On the other hand, some people think that advertisement does influence the them. Like there is impact of advertisement on them to choose the product. There are some loyal consumer who buy only one brand that they have bought from past as they know the quality and reliability of that brand. So the advertisement does not impact on them.
In my opinion, the advertisement impact a lot on consumer while choosing the product a they show the qualities and benefits of the product and it impact of buying the product.
In conclusion, the advertisement plays an important role in people life, but some people does not affect them as for them the brand loyalty matters a lot. The are stick to one brand only and buy that brands product only.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding celebrity endorsements is mentioned but not fully explored, and the discussion on brand loyalty in the second body paragraph is somewhat contradictory and lacks depth. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, you should aim to provide more specific examples or logical explanations for why advertising might lose its effectiveness, rather than simply stating that it does not impact loyal consumers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. For instance, the transition between the idea of celebrity influence and the ubiquity of advertisements in the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Because of these the people get influence', where the antecedent is vague. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clearer logical progression between sentences would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'important role', 'buy', and 'influence', which are repeated throughout the text. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the advertisement impact a lot on consumer' instead of 'advertisements have a significant impact on consumers'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and occasional inaccuracies in word forms (e.g., 'get influence' instead of 'are influenced') limit the score. Using more sophisticated synonyms and collocations would significantly improve your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some people does not affect them'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'The are stick to one brand'), and missing articles. While the meaning is usually understandable, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound, particularly when attempting more complex ideas.
