IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
A lot of people holding different views about how much advertising is affecting on our daily life. While some people believe that advertising has no influence on their customer behaivor, I am convienced that promotional materials are extremly effective at persuading us to make a decision of purchase even if we didn't have an intention to do this earlier.
On the one hand, there are valid arguments why we think that ads dont pay our attention. Firstly, it obvious that posters, city boards, promo videos are definetly common, so we see them in an huge amount every day and it's clear that we can't remember the last promotional piace that we seen. Additionally a lot of people dont have as much time to pay attention on every advertisement they see beacuse of workload or personal deals, it's quite common situalion.
On the other hand, despite all arguments above byssynes and low amount of attention doesn't means that advertising doesn't affecting our behaviour

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the development of ideas. While you have identified both sides of the argument and stated a clear position in the introduction, the essay is incomplete. The second body paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, and there is no conclusion. Because the task is not fully addressed due to the lack of length and the absence of a concluding summary, the response cannot be awarded a score higher than 5.0. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full, balanced discussion followed by a clear conclusion that synthesizes your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Additionally' to signal structure. However, the progression of ideas is interrupted by the premature ending of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of a complete essay structure makes it difficult to assess the overall flow. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of the transitions limits the score. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that you use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link ideas more fluidly between and within paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'behaivor' (behavior), 'convienced' (convinced), 'extremly' (extremely), 'piace' (piece), and 'byssynes' (businesses). Furthermore, some word choices are awkward, such as 'personal deals' instead of 'personal commitments' or 'city boards' instead of 'billboards'. To improve, focus on learning correct spellings and collocations, and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic of marketing and consumer psychology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'A lot of people holding different views' (should be 'hold'), 'advertising is affecting on' (should be 'affects'), and 'we didn't have an intention' (should be 'no intention'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and run-on sentences. The grammatical control is limited, and the errors are noticeable throughout the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
