Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things while other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. I agree with first opinion and still have faith in advertising.

To commence with, one of the main benefit is that by advertising ,the companies capture the attention of the shoppers. It could be through visually appealing and even emotionally engaging content. Most of the celebrities and cricketers are promote products and influence their followers to purchase that product they had a great impact on purchaser. Moreover, due to the development of technology the methods of advertising is changed now more people advertised their product on social media. For instance, if someone wants to buy laptop, it is likely to check the review first and choose well known brand compared to one that they have never heard of. Hence, advertising of any product is essential to increase the sales of products.

On the other hand, some people think that advertising is just a waste of money or time. They thought that advertising would no effect on purchaser rather then it creative or emotional impact on people. However, advertisement without creativity it looked more dull or boring. Some view skipping or blocking ads online as one of reasons why it is more effective, even though I totally disagree with that and believe the even by skipping it would stuck in their mind and lasting impression when we buy products.

In conclusion, advertising of products will significantly increase their sale. Without advertising the product will

become less popular and do not reach at peak.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding celebrity endorsements is relevant but could be expanded with more specific analysis of why this is effective. The second body paragraph attempts to discuss the opposing view but struggles with clarity, particularly the point about skipping ads. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments lack depth and the conclusion is quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explained with concrete reasoning rather than just stating the idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'even though I totally disagree with that and believe the even by skipping it would stuck in their mind'. Referencing is generally clear, but the internal structure of the sentences occasionally hinders the smooth flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'emotionally engaging content' and 'well known brand'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the methods of advertising is changed' (should be 'have changed') and 'do not reach at peak' (should be 'reach their peak'). The repetition of basic words like 'product' and 'advertising' also limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the methods of advertising is changed') and verb tense usage ('Most of the celebrities and cricketers are promote products'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
