Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people advocate that advertisements are so widespread that people have become accutomed to it and tend to ignore it. In my perspective, I opine that their argument is dubious while promotional massages are highly effective in encouraging customers to purchase products because of immense knowledge about product and influence in brand choice.

First and foremost, it is undeniable that people no longer pay attention to advertising compaigns because of too many a advertisements which means people watch ads on many platforms such as on television, Websities, social media, Youtube and streets. Because of the constant exposure people generally fed with the content of the ads and sometimes ads are not relevant and significant. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which significantly impacts the development of the conclusion and the overall task completion. The word count is 242, falling short of the 250-word minimum, which necessitates a penalty. While the ideas regarding the ubiquity of ads and their persuasive power are relevant, the lack of a finished conclusion prevents the response from fully developing the argument. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with sufficient depth and that the essay is fully completed within the word limit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, the flow is hampered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical progression of the argument. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical use of transition words limits the score. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points without being cut off.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'promotional massages' (messages), 'compaigns' (campaigns), 'Websities' (websites), and 'fed with' (fed up with). The range is somewhat limited, relying on repetitive phrasing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling. For example, instead of 'immense knowledge about product', use 'detailed product information'. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary will help convey your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Some people advocate that...' (should be 'argue'), 'too many a advertisements', 'the algorithm reflect' (subject-verb agreement), and 'inthis favor' (in this favor). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete sentence structure at the end is a significant issue. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will also help improve your score.
