Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 145 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views and states a position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting examples required for an Academic Task 2 response. The conclusion is missing entirely, and the discussion of the two viewpoints is too brief to fully explore the prompt. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you provide a clear, well-supported conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'In contrast', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt. The paragraphing is present but the content within them is too sparse to demonstrate a clear logical flow. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details and a concluding sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are some errors in word choice, such as 'seducing' instead of 'persuading' and 'affective' instead of 'effective'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas clearly. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'seducing', use 'influencing' or 'persuading', and ensure you use the correct form of words like 'effective' (adjective) versus 'affective' (related to emotion).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'Why i think it is still manipulating individuals this will be discussed', 'we does not need', and 'We starts to have craving'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and capitalization. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of complex sentence structures. Proofreading for basic errors like capitalization and verb forms is essential.
