Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why advertising leads to curiosity is brief and relies on general statements rather than specific examples or deeper analysis. The second body paragraph regarding the 'frustration' caused by excessive advertising is relevant but lacks a strong connection to the prompt's core question about the effectiveness of persuasion versus indifference. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Along with this', and 'In the following paragraphs', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the paragraphs could be smoother. The concluding sentence effectively summarizes the writer's stance, though the introductory paragraph is slightly repetitive in its phrasing. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'development world' instead of 'developed world' and 'displays offer' instead of 'displays offers'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms like 'things', 'good', and 'many'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to marketing and consumer behavior, rather than repeating simple words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the individuals becomes', 'this curiosity further lead'), article usage ('the owner of the product'), and pluralization ('there product' instead of 'their products'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A more careful proofreading process would help identify these recurring slips.
