Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development is limited. The arguments regarding the effectiveness of advertising are supported by personal anecdotes, such as the teenager's shop and the McDonald's example. However, the discussion of the opposing view—that advertising is ignored due to its ubiquity—is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The essay tends to focus more on the benefits of advertising for business growth rather than fully exploring the psychological impact of constant exposure to ads. To reach a higher band, you should provide more balanced analysis and ensure your opinion is clearly stated and consistently maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'After that time' and the use of 'But' at the start of sentences are repetitive and sometimes awkward. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with the use of pronouns like 'our' and 'he' when referring to business owners in general. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly improve the flow and logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'marketing', 'shop', and 'ad'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'sale production' instead of 'sell products' and 'glossary' instead of 'grocery'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations related to business and marketing, such as 'brand awareness', 'consumer behaviour', or 'market penetration'. Expanding your range of vocabulary beyond simple, everyday words is essential for achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('It have pay attention'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which hinders clarity. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, such as 'It can be generate profit'. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with commas used incorrectly to join independent clauses. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verbs agree with their subjects. Reducing the number of errors in simple sentences should be your priority before attempting more complex structures.
