Student answer (Band 6.0)

Marketing plays a crutial role for the sucess of any product wheather it is a toothpaste or a computer device. Even a product with very good quality and functionality may fail due to the lact of proper advertisement. Since, the major purpose of advertising is to let individuals know what the product is, what it does, where it can be purchased, the price of it and so on to persude them. Having said that, people may get irritated if they come across excessive advertisement. As a result they choose pay little attention to it.

Both views will be discussed below and an opinion will be given at the end.

Manufacturers attempt to capture a large market share for the purpose of their survival and growth. This also allow them to remain profitable and invest more into other product lines. So, companies choose different advertising stategies to create a mental place in the customer's head. For example, TV commercials, online advertising, influencer marketing, billboard advertising, social media marketing etc., are quite common and successful in influencing individuals to make a purchase. Advertising is so powerful that even very successful organizations with a massive customer base continuously investing into this sector. We can take the example of Coca Cola and Pepsi where rival marketing stategy can be observed. Without proper advertising, consumers tend to forget about the brand and lean towards those products that are highly advertised. Therefore, it is considered quite influential.

On the contrary, advertisement may become the reason for disturbance, if not controlled or regulated properly. According to some individuals, excessive advertising reduce their efficacy. Because, when people watch promotinal activities on a continuous basis, they do not feel the urge to listen to it with proper attention. For instance, when browse Google, we see numerous advertisements pop into our screen which we most often ignore because our brain cannot process this amount of information together. Consequently, we completely ignore what we see on our screens.

In my opinion, advertising is important since it provides numerous benfits to the companies and information to the customer. However, it should be used with caution and responsibility.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of brand recall for the first view and the concept of 'ad blindness' for the second. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the arguments are clear, they could be extended with more depth or specific analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the writer's stance. To improve, ensure that the explanation of why people ignore ads is more thoroughly explored rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the contrary', 'As a result', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'listen to it' in the third paragraph, where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Overall, the flow of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'market share', 'influencer marketing', and 'efficacy'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'crutial', 'sucess', 'wheather', 'lact', and 'persude'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. The use of 'mental place' is a slightly awkward collocation; 'brand awareness' or 'top-of-mind awareness' would be more natural. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and more precise collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'This also allow them' (subject-verb agreement), 'excessive advertising reduce' (subject-verb agreement), and 'when browse Google' (missing subject). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky. While the student attempts complex structures, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring all clauses have clear subjects would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of the writing.
