IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people say that the advertising process is not valuable to sell the products while on the other hand, some believe the ads are some much common that we are not attending great pay to it. In my opinion, ads are extremely important to sell something But in the below paragraphs we will discuss both point of view.
If we look at the products today, which are highly sell are mostly whose ads are apparing on tv or on social media. Because this is the reality as social media ads like on youtube or other platforms played a crucial role to make the people to buy products. For example: In the early time when pepsi is just begin in the market and no one bought becasue people thought its color is weird and may be its a kind of alcohol but when there is an ads on tv of pepsi we all know how highly sell this brand is.
Although , today everyone in a small amount can play its product ad on media platforms like everyone is jsut showing bad products such as due to social ads bad things such as apps which is prohibited ,products got famous but it does not mean the buyng habits being less but yes the hopes or confidence is quite low now as compared to the time of tv when there are small piece of ads being displayed. This is why some says much display of ads make tough for good products to buy as every poor king of thing ad shows on insta or facebook.
In conclusion, we can say that ads are very much important for selling products today. Even though too many ads make people confuse and trust is getting low because of bad things, marketing is still needed so people can know about good items and buy them easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The example regarding Pepsi is relevant but lacks sufficient detail to fully support the argument about advertising's effectiveness. The second body paragraph attempts to discuss the saturation of advertising but struggles to articulate the point clearly, leading to some confusion regarding the impact on consumer confidence. While the task is addressed, the arguments would benefit from more depth and clearer logical progression to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'Although , today everyone in a small amount can play its product ad'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of some phrasing hinder the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'things'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'not attending great pay to it' (likely meaning 'not paying much attention') and 'poor king of thing' (likely meaning 'poor kind of thing'). Spelling errors, such as 'apparing', 'becasue', and 'buyng', also occur. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('products... is mostly', 'some says'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward sentence construction ('when there is an ads on tv'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the writing from achieving a higher score.
