Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding people ignoring advertisements is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with strong reasoning. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and specific examples for each perspective, ensuring your own opinion is clearly integrated throughout the essay rather than just appearing in the final paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In additional' and 'Other reason is' are used incorrectly, which disrupts the flow of ideas. Furthermore, the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt. While there is a logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the essay feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of your cohesive devices will significantly enhance the readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'conventional time' instead of 'the past' or 'traditional times', and 'pathetic' to describe advertisements, which is not the most appropriate collocation. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'ocassion'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('advertising become', 'companies used'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments ('that's helps to society'). The misuse of prepositions and verb forms is also noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a beneficial next step.
